After a warm welcome, the next step awaits

29 September 2025

With the introduction of the STAAD 17W, Staad is taking a new step in electric earthmoving. It's the first fully in-house developed electric wheeled excavator from this Veghel-based family business, and it's now officially available for pre-order. After previous premieres at (international) trade shows, the time has come for those interested to go from admiring to ordering.

Mobile excavator with 57 standard options

The STAAD 17W made a big impression earlier this year at bauma in Munich and the TKD in Sint-Oedenrode. At the world's largest equipment trade fair, not only potential international customers were in attendance, but also fellow manufacturers, suppliers, and trade journalists. At the TKD, the Dutch public, including many operators, had the opportunity to admire the machine up close.

Pieter Staadegaard, CEO of Staad, saw a clear shift in reactions: "While people were still skeptical about the battery capacity and charging infrastructure during the previous Technical Inspection in 2023, we now mainly heard that this is the product that paves the way to an emission-free future. It's a truly Dutch product, tailored to the needs of our operators. A factory-fitted mobile excavator with 57 standard options."

Worry-free running

It's striking that the STAAD 17W performs exceptionally well with a Powerbox 300 battery pack of "only" 300 kWh. In this weight class, 400 kWh is the standard for heavy-duty use. Thanks to optimizations in the drivetrain and software, the machine ran smoothly for an entire workday with less capacity. The more efficient control of the electronics and hydraulics is thanks to the immediate power of an electric motor, whereas a diesel version needs to rev up first. The STAAD 17W is designed for versatile use, particularly in inner-city projects such as demolition, sewer, and new construction. The mobile excavator weighs 17.3 tons, is exceptionally compact, and has a small swing radius. The low height of the Powerbox 300 ensures excellent direct visibility from the cab, which increases safety on both the construction site and on the road. "A common reaction is: 'You can't even tell it's an electric machine... I'd like to work with this!'"

Additional functionality

Another point that received a lot of attention during the TKD was charging flexibility. In addition to fast charging, the STAAD 17W can even be charged via a 32A wall box, which can be found almost anywhere. The Powerbox 300 can also function as an AC power generator to charge external electrical devices or compact machinery. It can even be rented out on weekends for festivals, markets, or other events.

The STAAD 17W is now available for pre-order, with delivery scheduled for mid-2026. The price is known, and those applying for the subsidy before October 31, 2025, will benefit from an attractive total package. According to Staadegaard, the difference in TCO compared to a diesel version is less than ten euros per hour, including the subsidy. "This makes the machine even attractive for independent operators who regularly work on zero-emission projects. For those who can't or don't want to wait that long, the DX165W Electric is available from stock."

Further expansion

Based on the many positive experiences with Staad's current generation of electric machines, the enthusiastic organization is confident that this new powerhouse will be a valuable and interesting addition to the existing range of electric models. With the STAAD 17W, Staad is raising the bar for what Dutch innovation in earthmoving can achieve.
