We met Bart van Liempt of BVL Grondverzet (paving, sewer & garden renovation) from Berlicum in Brabant, in 's-Hertogenbosch. Since August, Bart has been the proud owner of a brand-new Develon DX10Z-7 , his very first mini excavator and the first machine ordered from the Staad Kiss & Ride promotion. Enjoying a cup of coffee and a generous dose of Brabant hospitality, Bart drove home with a "Big Smile" after a final explanation of the machine. And that smile? It stayed. We saw it immediately upon arrival, and it didn't disappear for a moment during our conversation.

So where are we, Bart? "Almost in the center of 's-Hertogenbosch, in a customer's backyard. A building is being expanded here, and we're doing the groundwork for the new courtyard. That includes laying a deck, the floor of a garden shed, and the sidewalks. A great job, and perfect for this DX10Z mini excavator," Bart explains enthusiastically.
What makes this machine so perfect? "Because it's only 73 cm in its narrowest position, I can easily fit through almost any doorway. Even through this garden gate, although the crash bar had to be removed to get under it. If there hadn't been a back entrance, I could have zip-lined through the house, but that's being renovated as well. Now I can always keep going at the same time." Ideal, according to Bart.
Are you satisfied with this machine? "Enormously," says Bart without hesitation. "It's a bit more manly, stronger, and more stable than the rental machine I was used to. This boom is longer, which is handy for handling heavy concrete siding or tiles. You get a little closer to your colleagues. With the boom extended, it reaches thirty centimeters further; that saves lifting, which is a benefit from an occupational health and safety perspective."
Bart continues: "At its widest setting, it's 110 centimeters wide, making it incredibly stable for all our work. You also notice this in road construction: installing drains, gutters—it does exactly what I expect. This mini excavator is very maneuverable, powerful, and reliable—it's truly great."

"I also use it for interior work," Bart continues. "For example, for a demolition job in a living room. We're chopping with another mini excavator, and with this Develon DX10Z-7 I scoop out the rubble. Driving in through doors, around corners and through, ideal. The boom is a bit longer, so I have to pay a bit more attention inside, but that works fine." (Ed.) That's right, the machine looks great. Not a scratch in sight. Bart is a true professional.
"Aside from the machine itself, I'm also happy with the buckets that came with it," says Bart. "The banana bucket, backhoe bucket, and ditch bucket are ideal for my work. I also ordered a larger backhoe bucket from a 2-tonner and a ripper tine for sawing off roots or ripping open a rubble road. With that big bucket, I can fill a wheelbarrow in two shovels, so I can keep going. The hydraulic quick coupler is fantastic. It's a must-have, but it's even better that it's included in the offer."
"Through a friend who also works in earthmoving," Bart explains. "He forwarded me the Kiss & Ride promotion. When I saw it was available at Staad, I called right away. Bart has been self-employed for three years. When he turned sixteen, he registered with the Chamber of Commerce that same day. During his vocational training to become a machinist, he worked for a contractor in his hometown, where he operated larger equipment, a Develon DX140W mobile excavator, also from Staad.
Today, he owns one mini excavator (the DX10Z-7) and a small loader. With his double-axle trailer, he transports his equipment and other supplies to every project, for both contractors and private individuals.
"In the future, I want to grow in a controlled manner, with multiple mini and larger excavators, so that the work becomes more varied. I'm closely following emission-free developments. When that time comes, I know Staad is the right place for me," says Bart confidently.
