With the purchase of a Develon DX300LC-7, weighing approximately 32 tons, Arno van den Dungen has added a striking new asset to his fleet. Painted in striking company colors, the crawler excavator was fully customized in Staad's workshop to the customer's specifications, providing the company from Heusden, Brabant, with raw power for demanding demolition and earthmoving projects.

Love at first sight

On Valentine's Day, it was all smiles at a job in Oud-Beijerland. The brand-new Develon DX300LC-7 had just been delivered by Staad and was ready to take on the most demanding projects. It was an impressive sight, not only because of its size, but also because of its striking corporate colors and the series of modifications that fully prepared the over 32-ton crawler excavator for the daily work of Arno van den Dungen Demolition & Earthmoving.

The Brabant-based company began in 1988 as a timber trading company, originating from construction and demolition waste. The apple didn't fall far from the tree, as Arno's father and brother were also active in demolition. Since then, the company's activities have expanded significantly: in addition to demolition, the focus is on earthmoving, soil or asbestos remediation, container rental, recycling, and the trade in used building materials. "This circle aligns perfectly with our CB concept – Circular Building Materials," explains Bart van den Dungen, who, along with his brother Daan and father Arno, forms the management team. "Our new DX300LC-7 plays a key role in this."

Customized down to the last detail

The Develon primarily plays a key role on challenging demolition projects, although it also regularly participates in earthmoving. "The body is completely tailored to our work," Bart proudly states. In the Staad workshop, the DX300LC-7 underwent extensive work. Protective grilles were installed for the roof and front windows, a glass skylight with a windshield wiper was installed, and breaker piping with a filter on the return line, quick-change hoses, a Cleanfix reversible cooling fan, DropsaVET automatic greasing, and OHT overpressure preparation including a carbon filter were chosen. Comfort has also been considered; the luxurious cabin features heated and cooled seats, tinted windows, and a 360° camera system.

The machine's versatility is remarkable. "Thanks to the OilQuick system, you can quickly switch between demolition/sorting grapple and concrete shear, pulverizer, scrap shear, drum screen, magnet, or vibratory block. An additional pump has also been installed for demolition tools that require a large volume." The machine is equipped with reinforced link arms for the bucket cylinder, beveled grousers on the track shoes, additional work lights, additional track rollers, a bumper on the counterweight, and bumpers all around. All this makes the DX300LC-7 optimally prepared for tougher work.

Ready for any job

Just imagine, we'll find the machine on an earthmoving project. In Zaltbommel, Van den Dungen is working on behalf of Heembouw on the construction of a road and soil remediation on the Plieger site. All preparatory groundwork is also being carried out for the installation of a sprinkler tank with a pump chamber. The construction pit has been filled with mixed aggregate to ensure the piling rig can operate safely, and a new culvert has been installed to drain rainwater into the previously constructed watercourse. The new Develon will be joined by three Doosans: a DX340LC, DX170W, and DL320 wheel loader – all familiar faces in the Heusden equipment fleet. "Besides these machines, we also have an older DX300LC model, and a new 20-ton DX190W-7 wheeled excavator will be added before the summer holidays."

Regular operator Nick took his first seat behind the joysticks of the rugged Develon 30-tonner on Valentine's Day. It was love at first sight. "It's his first new machine, and it's largely configured to his specifications," says Bart. "He's incredibly happy, and so are we. The comfort is superb, and the performance is truly a class above what we were used to. In fact, we don't even dare attach the universal tiltrotator for fear the machine will tear it in half."

Trust in State

The partnership with Staad plays a major role in the success of this investment. "Service is incredibly important to us," says Bart. "Staad delivers customized solutions, responds quickly, and honors agreements. We once briefly switched to another brand, but quickly reconsidered. At Staad, the lines of communication are short, the prices are competitive, and the communication is pleasant. This allows us to focus on what we do best." Arno van den Dungen works with a team of nearly thirty people, supplemented by a flexible workforce of freelancers, pavers, and asbestos abatement specialists.

"Our machines average 1200 to 1300 operating hours per year, partly because we have more machines than operators. Yet, especially in the demolition world, reliability and maintenance are crucial. Fortunately, Staad has those covered." The Develon DX300LC-7 is more than just brute force. It's a well-designed, comfortable, and multifunctional powerhouse that fits perfectly with the forward-thinking approach of Arno van den Dungen Demolition & Earthmoving. "With this machine, we're ready for the next step," concludes Bart. "Both in the field of demolition and for our work with circular building materials."
