Doosan Infracore has announced that they have won a Gold Award at the International Forum Design Awards 2021 in Germany for their Concept-X excavator design. One of 75 entries to win a Gold Award out of a total of 10,000 entries from 52 countries, the Concept-X excavator design was selected by a 98-member jury of independent experts from around the world.
In the statement accompanying the Gold Award announcement, the organizers, iF International Forum Design GmbH, the world's oldest independent design organization, based in Hanover, Germany, said: "This concept raises the bar and pushes the boundaries of technology with an ambitious vision." for the future of construction machinery. Unmanned trucks and excavators supervised by drones, sci-fi systems and automotive. The possibilities are endless such as improved safety, productivity, precision and quality.
The Doosan Concept-X excavator design
As a forward-looking unmanned construction machine, Doosan Infracore's Concept-X excavator design is characterized by the lack of an operator's cab and the four separated continuous tracks which provide more stability on uneven terrain. The design shows that all components, except the boom, of the excavator are motorized with indicators on the joint areas for easy load weighing.
Concept-X is the world's first unmanned, automated and integrated solution introduced in 2019 by Doosan Infracore for construction, quarrying and mining operations. This function will not be used often in the Netherlands because the driver remains very important for the specific work. But abroad where dangerous or standard work has to be performed in mines, for example, this can be a great solution. The project can be carried out by means of drones that measure the working area, automatically analyze the data, execute the work plan and send the data to the machines such as the excavator and the wheel loaders.
Doosan Infracore has won awards from the iF Design Awards two years in a row, last year Doosan won the Product Discipline Award with the DL-7 series wheel loaders. Doosan has demonstrated great design capabilities over the competition as evidenced by winning 'best of the best' at the Pinup Design Awards 2019 and at the 2020 Red Dot Design Awards.
“It's unusual for construction equipment to win the Gold Award at the iF Design Awards. We try to create a premium design image by winning design awards with our new generation of products.” said a Doosan Infracore employee.
